Today I was thinking to myself, “I really wish there was one place I could go to find all the fun stuff going on in my area”, so in true DIY spirit I decided to set up a community calendar on my server. The calendar is located at http://calendar.hexplosion.com.
I invite you to collaborate on this venture. If you would like to contribute please drop me a line and I’ll set up an account for you. It’s quick and its easy.
The kind of things I’d like to see on the calendar:
Shows that you find interesting/plan on attending
Free & cheap activities
Art shows
Craft Fairs
Flea markets
Workshops
Community sporting events
House and block parties
Festivals
Interesting lectures
Meetups
Movies
Bar drink specials & DJ nights
etc etc etc
Anyone and everyone is welcome to participate, even if you don’t really know me that well. Feel free to repost, forward, etc. Let’s get together!
PS - Some fun perks for Hexplosion Calendar members: members can set email reminders for events or recieve digest event emails if they so desire. Members can easily export calendar info to other calendar applications such as iCalendar, vCalendar, Pilot Datebook CSV (Palm Pilot) and Install Datebook (Palm Pilot). w00t.
NOTE: Hexplosion Community Calendar is exclusive to events in the Baltimore/DC metro area. If you only want to join to promote your bands’ shows, please don’t, that’s what Pheer is for.

Can you set it up to allow anybody to post an event without a username, but make these events moderated by you (so you’d have to approve before they go live)? I think that would be a better system. That way, bands would come to your site to post their own gigs etc.
wait, why don’t you want bands to push shows?

Yup, I can do this.

I don’t mind if bands post info on their shows, but that’s not all I want them to do. If I’m just looking for shows going on in my area I’d check Pheer. I definately don’t want the calendar to have a focus on shows.
