On Tuesday I got in touch with the people at EPFL regarding the letter I received in the mail, looking to set up a date for my interview. I was told by the woman on the phone that they had been trying to get in touch with me for some time, and that the interviews had already taken place. They’d already hired someone. Confused, I asked how they’d tried to contact me. She said that they’d tried to contact me by phone for a while, then as a last resort they sent out my letter in the mail. But I’d NEVER received any kind of voicemail from them, nothing. “And what about email, don’t you use email?” I asked. “We don’t email” she responded.
Dejected, I ended our conversation.
But things weren’t adding up in my head. I decided to call back. “When did you conduct your interviews,” I asked the woman. “We conducted our interviews on January 4th,” She responded. “But the letter I received in the mail on the 13th of January wasn’t postmarked until January 12, postmarked eight days after you hired someone. How did that happen?” She had no real answers, “It must’ve been delayed in blah blah blah department. Etc etc.”
So the whole situation is fucked up. I was really looking forward to the prospect of working with EPFL, but it looks like they pulled some kind of insider job on me. So much for that option.
