ARPHID?

Was scoping Boing Boing this morning and saw this article about ARPHIDs, and their projected applications in the future. I’m still not really sure what ARPHIDs (RFIDs) and Oyster Cards are all about (don’t have time to do more research at the present, unfortunately), but I wanted to pass it on before I forgot. This article lead me to Odeo, and their article on Oyster Card field recordings in the London Underground. I listened to their field recording No. 1, and I’m not sure if that delay effect is a natural occurance or something they did in post production, but either way it sounds awesome. Give it a listen!

That recording is pretty sweet. I’m 97.6% sure that stereo delay is unnatural. If they’d stereo mic’d and the delay was natural, not everything would be delayed like that, unless they were in some really odd, big space that wasn’t near traffic (pedestrian or otherwise) that would create something not delayed. In short, because there’s nothing that isn’t delayed, it’s got to be post-production as the likelihood of that size space picking up all sounds and delaying them equally and across the stereo spectrum is very very very very low.
